JACQUELINE FOGARTY

Sponsored by the Kuhlman Fiber Arts Foundation, Catch is inspired by “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish” by Russian writer Alexander Pushkin. Channeling this story as the central inspiration, Catch blends maritime elements with the opulence of the Russian imperial court to construct a narrative of ego, class, and escape. The swirling anchor rope and stones builds into a looming queen seemingly emerging the ropes as equally as she is pulled down by the gold cut embroidery seaweed strands. Adorned in burgundy and gold, she is commanding as "Ruler of the Sea" but remains tied to the depths of her actions.
